Tracy Carson, Broker/Owner of MaxWell South Star, is known to so many as the first female Broker/Owner at MaxWell Realty.
She has been in the real estate business for 20 years and we wanted to share her real estate journey with the rest of the MaxWell family.

 Here is Tracys story:

I have been in Real Estate for 20 years; Im as old as MaxWell. In the three years before becoming licensed, I worked in sales for new home builders. That is where I met my husband, James. He came in to buy a house from me. In the early days, RECA’s required licensing education could be anything that fits into the category of Real Estate related education. I didnt want to waste my time, so I did retraining courses that would benefit me in the industry. Those courses gave me some form of accreditation. I took the Creb Commercial Designation first, then moved on to my Associate Brokers Course.

On November 30th, 2002, at the Christmas party, Ron Stanners approached me and asked if I would like to do some managing. I told him no because I didnt think I had enough experience to answer questions from the Realtors. I had been in Real Estate for three years by then. It was a good thing that I didnt accept the offer that night because, five days later, my son, Matt, was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma and was paralyzed from the waist down due to a large tumour on his spine. In the next year, I didnt have time for anything but the Childrens Hospital and countless rounds of chemo and radiation. (Matt is excellent nowhes cancer-free and has relearned to walk.)

In 2006, Ron asked me again if Id help him out by becoming Associate Broker. This time I was ready. In 2015, Ron retired, and I purchased the office because I had worked with Ron for so many years, there wasnt much about ownership that surprised me. If anything, it was stepping out of my comfort zone and handling the business side of the business. I had a great apprenticeship.

My goals for my offices? I joke with my staff that we are going to take over the world, starting with southern Alberta. Were working on it. Challenges in the coming year will be the sluggish economy and the morale of the Realtors. I try to help them realize that we can win in any economy; we need to put our clients first and keep a positive attitude. Mindset can accomplish everything.

The MaxWell family is the reason I survived in the business as a single mom with a handicapped child dealing with cancer. The realtors in my office came to my door with meals and treats, and they helped with my office fees and some of my clients while we were in the hospital. I am proud to be a part of a family that would do that. At the time, I was only with MaxWell for eight months and didnt know anyone. The values and integrity of the realtors make me proud to be a part of MaxWell.

The part of my position that I enjoy the most is mentoring realtors and watching their business grow. I know we can create top realtors with thriving businesses. I love helping them get to where they want to be in their careers.

Outside of real estate, I love to travel. Exploring new places is fun. We like exploring the history and culture of other places in the world. Im not one to sit on the beach. I love football and hockey. This year, I got my first NFL fantasy football team. We like camping. I grew up in the North, and I love fishing. Hunting isnt my thing, though. I have volunteered for the Kids Cancer Care Foundation, Kids Help Phone, and the charitable foundation at Creb. I have also been onseveral committees, including a stint on the board of directors at Creb.

Now you know more than you ever wanted to know about me!
