THE HISTORY OF THE CANADIAN FLAG

Pearson, a former Canadian Prime Minister, had a goal. That goal was to abandon the British flag and take on one of our own. After a long six month battle in the House of Parliament, the Canadian flag was passed on December 15, 1964. This was 97 years after Canada first became a nation. The red bands on each side of the flag represent our ocean boundaries, and the red maple leaf in the middle could stand for our abundant natural resources between the seas.
